WHO WE ARE
The Decimus Burton Society is an organisation that was created to promote a wider recognition and understanding of the life and works of the architect, Decimus Burton (1800-1881).

Founded in 2018 by Paul Avis, Dr. Philip Whitbourn, OBE, FSA, FRIBA, Dr. Chris Jones and Elizabeth Nathaniels, the Society has already attracted the interest and support of many prominent individuals, architects, academics, authors and professionals, as well as owners of properties designed by Decimus Burton. Amongst its early supporters are HRH Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia, Sir Donald Insall, CBE, Dr. Jennifer Freeman, OBE, and Guy Fearon, a descendant of Decimus Burton.
The Society has also been fortunate to receive the support of other societies, institutions and organisations with collections of items relating to Decimus Burton.

WHAT WE DO
The Society aims to create a central resource point, containing a collection of material relating to Decimus Burton. Through lectures, talks and visits to Burton designed buildings, places of interest and landscapes, as well as the publication of research into the architect and his times, we seek to encourage the study and appreciation of his work.
